WHAT MAKES A CHURCH GREAT - #2

I have been looking at some of the marks of a great church, and praying that we will continue to grow and be the best that God wants us to be as a church family! When I think about greatness, this has nothing to do with how the world considers something great! Are we a great church in God's eyes?

Yesterday, I gave 2 marks of a great church. 1. Jesus must be lifted up in the church. 2. The Word of God is the foundation of the church.

Another mark of a great church is PRAYER. How can a church be great if they are not in communication with the one who gives life, power, and creativity to the church. Prayer must become a greater emphasis in our personal lives as well as our church life. Jesus said, "My house shall be called a house of prayer." Prayer cannot be delegated to a few people who pray, but should be the center part of every life, every service, every ministry! Lord, help us to be a church of prayer!

Another mark of a great church is PRAISE AND WORSHIP. Praise and Worship is more than music, songs, choirs, performances. We do not praise and worship to show off our talents, but to lift up the name of Jesus! Praise and worship is not a spectator sport, but something that brings us into relationship with God Himself. God's Word tells us - "God is enthroned in the praises of His people." God's Word also tells us - "We enter His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise."

Let us contine to be great in God's eyes!!

  1. The word GREAT seems to be the word for the month for me, too. I just started following your blog and really look forward to reading it. Thank you. On my site, TheAttleboroZone.com, I promote local charities, churches and organizations that serve and volunteer in the community. The slogan is 'Everyone can be great, because everyone can serve.' Servanthood is a sign of greatness. Jesus said if you want to be great than be a servant. The question is Do we really want to be great in God's eyes or just great in the world's eyes?

  2. Very good point Pastor. I think praise brings us to a place where we can come into contact with Jesus. Our praise unlocks the door so that we have access to our Lord.I also think to many times people ask God in prayer for answers then forget to wait until He answers.
