THINGS THAT I CAN CONTROL!

How many people love to be in control of everything that is going on in thier lives. In our world today we are facing great challenges and obstacles and we realize that we need God in our lives.

When you read the Word of God, it is amazing how many times it talks about storms. In our storms today, what does it take to maintain peace when things are out of control?

We need to realize that there we must choose to focus on what we can control and let God take care fo the rest!

So what is under my control? (I got these thoughts from Pastor Jeff Leake)

1. When I live - If I choose to live in tomorrow's problems today, then I am going to live with stress, fear, and anxiety. God gives me grace for every moment of life. Grace does not come in advance of the moment. I need to learn to rest in God's presence for this moment.

2. What I do - I cannot control what other people do (as much as I would like to be able to control others!) I can only control my response.

3. What I carry - In Acts 27 - Paul and the people on the ship are in a storm and they begin to throw grain, cargo overboard to make the ship lighter in the storm. They were not throwing over bad things, they were good things. But in a storm it makes you put aside some things so that you can focus on those things that are necessary. That is what many people are doing right now in this storm in America! What are we going to carry with us?

4. Who I listen to - In a storm, we can become very discouraged easily. We hear negative voices everywhere we turn. We need to tune out every negative voice, and tune into voices of faith!

5. What I believe - In a storm, I must make the choice of what I am going to believe in! I can believe in myself, people, the government or I can believe in the Word of God. I am going to believe in the Word of God that will never fail!

6. What I confess - Our words reinforce and release faith! I need to encourage myself with my words, talk, conversations, speech. "Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks."

7. Who I trust - Paul knew that in the middle of a storm (Acts 27) that he belonged to God. He put his life, his future, his trust in God!

This morning we can control the things we can control, but when we let God take care of the rest, we can go through the storm with His peace that passes all understanding!

(I will be away the next couple of days for a board meeting for Valley Forge Christian College, so I will not be able to blog until I get back)

Springtime

The weather that last two days have been great! It was so nice to be able to get outside and do some things around my house, and wash my car. It is amazing that after a long winter, how great it is to realize that spring time is here. I love the spring because it is a time of new birth.

In two weeks,we will be celebrating the real New Birth! The Resurrection of Jesus Christ. I ask that you will keep our special Easter services in prayer. Please keep you Save5 in prayer and begin to invite them to our special Easter service in the gym at 10:00 AM.

Let us pray and believe for many to experience the New Birth on Easter Sunday.

Another thing that is exciting is that tomorrow night in our evening service we will be commissioning 17 women as short term missionaries as they leave for Romania. We will also be baptizing in water 26 people. It is going to be a great night!

God is so good!

ARE WE REALLY SOLD OUT FOR CHRIST?

Today, I was at a meeting at Zion Bible College, and the guest speaker was Alton Garrison, our National Assistant Supt. for the Assemblies of God. He was calling the people to a greater commitment to Jesus Christ.

How many of us feel that we are really commited to Jesus Christ? He told us a couple of testimonies that made us think about are we really sold out to Christ? He told about a pastor in Pakistan, who was a young man with a wife and a baby daughter, and how we was preaching about Jesus. One morning on the way to the church, he was surrounded at a traffic light, and he was shot to death. Today, the church is growing because this pastor was sold out to Jesus Christ.

In Africa, another pastor was preaching and leading people to Christ, and starting churches in his area. There were government people who were against what was going on and first threw him in jail. He got out of jail, and he continued to lift up Jesus Christ. They came and warned him again, and he kept preaching about Jesus. A short time ago, they came to him and cut of his limbs and then burned him to death! That is what is means to be sold out to Jesus Christ. They killed one man but today there are 100 that have taken his place.

Today, I am asking myself, am I really sold out for Jesus Christ! That is a good question that I think we all need to ask ourselves from time to time!

STRESSFUL LIVING

We are living in days when stress is impacting so many people! Life is never going to be stress-free, because we live in a fallen world. God's Word tells us what to do in times of stress, "Cast all your cares, burdens, and anything that causes you stress upon the Lord."

I was reading in a book by John Maxwell, "Today Matters", and one of the chapters deals with stress. He said, that one hundred years ago, most causes of illness were related to infectious disease. Today, they are related to stress.

Everyone of us will have stress in our lives, but is stress becoming a problem. Ask yourself these questions that came from a National Association for Mental Health.
- Do minor problems and disappointments bother you more than they should?
- Are you finding it hard to get along with people (and them with you)?
- Have you found that you are not getting enjoyment out the things you use to enjoy?
- Do your anxieties haunt you?
- Are you afraid of situations or people that didn't bother you before?
- Have you become suspicious of people, even your friends?
- Do you ever feel trapped?
- Do you feel inadequate?

If you answer yes to many of these questions, then stress is becoming a problem to you. How are we going to handle the stress in our lives?

I would recommend the following things in times of great stress:

1. Pray for God's help, grace and wisdom in this stressful time!
2. Begin to deal with the things that you can change, and leave the rest up to God.
3. Take a break from the situation and allow God to minister to you.
4. Try to get a new perspective on your situation.
5. Exercise and eat properly!

Stress is a part of life, but God wants to be a bigger part of your life! Allow His presence to minister to you today!

RUNNING THE RACE

Now that Spring is here, I think. I have seen a lot more runners out running. I use to love this time of year, that after work I was able to get outside and go running.
I was reading in I Corinthians 9: 24-27 in the New Living Bible" "Remember that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize. You also must run in such a way that you will win. All athletes practice strict self-control. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize so I run straight to the goal with purpose in every step. I am not like a boxer who misses pucnes. I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified."

There are some important principles that we can take from these verses in the running of life.

#1. We need to run as to win, and not just a weekend warrior. There are some runners who run because they are training for a race, and then there are others who do it for fun or exercise. How are we running our spiritual life? We need to run as to win spiritually!

#2. Athletes need strict control over their bodies. We have seen lately athletes that are looking for shortcuts, so they will take steroids and other illegal substances to get ahead in their sport. In the spiritual life, we need to discipline ourselves and realize that shortcuts will always come up short.

#3. We can talk the talk but do we walk the walk!

I want to encourage you to run the race to win today!

CONNECTED TO THE VINE

According to the calendar it is suppose to be spring, but it sure feels like winter to me. Spring time is a time when things come back to life, because of the warmth and rain. Over the last few days, I have blogged concerning our need of connecting with God, connecting with one another so that we can connect with our world.

In God's Word another example of connection is that we are attached to a VINE. In John 15:4 one translation says it this way - "Live in me, and I will live in you. A branch cannot produce any fruit by itself. It has to stay in attached to the vine. In the same way, you cannot produce fruit unless you live in me." Being connected must start first of all with being connected with God Himself. If we are not connected with our Heavenly Father, we will never really be connected with one another and with our world. In reality, fruit that are not connected with the vine, will die. It is really that simple. If we are not connected with the Living God, then we are going to spiritually die.

When we are connected with the vine, then the fruit of the Spirit will grow out of our connection to the Father. Galatians 5 tells us the fruit (results) that will characterize a person that is connected to the vine; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. If we are really connected to God then these are the characteristics that should be growing in our lives!

I want to encourage you to stay connected to God, connect with one another, so that we can connect with our world!

WE ARE FAMILY!!!

How many remember that song - "We are family." That is another description that the Word of God gives to us concerning the connection that we need with God, with one another and with our world."

When we accepted Christ we are born into a family. Families need to be connected to one another for the health and safety of the whole family. Too many Christians accept the Lord and then they never become a part of a local church family. God has created us for connection!

1 Timothy 3:15 in one paraphrase says it this way: "I want you to know how people who are members of God's family must live. God's family is the church..." Christianity is more than just a belief system, rules and religion. Christianity is a BELONG system according to Rick Warren. The Bible says that we are born again into the family of God.

As a family, we need to accept one another even though we may be different. I love my brothers and sister even though they are different than me. We have different lifestyles, attitudes about things, goals in life, but we are family. We must love and accept people, but that does not mean that we APPROVE of things that are sinful and against the Word of God. We must accept people even when we cannot approve of certain things!

That is the connection that God wants in His family!

Connection

We live in a world today that needs to be connected with other people. On Thursday mornings, I have the privilege of connecting with other pastors in the Attleboro area for a time of connection, fellowship and praying one for another. I look forward to this time of just being able to be with other brothers who serve the Lord!

As I blogged about yesterday about the need of connection, and that God's Word says that we are built like a building and one brick is dependent on the other.
Another picture of this connection that is needed today is that we are to be JOINED TOGETHER LIKE A BODY.

Romans 12: 4-5 tells us in the Living Bible - "Just as there are many parts to our bodies, so it is with Christ's Body. We are all parts of it, and it takes every one of us to make it complete, for we each have different work to do. So we belong to each other, and each of us needs all the others."

We need to realize that we are the Body of Christ here on this Earth. We are His hands, His feet, etc. We all have a part in fulfilling His purpose of connecting with people today. Being a part of His Body means that we are a part of something that is bigger than ourselves, and if we do not do our part, the entire body is impacted in a negative way!

Let us truly be the Body of Christ and connect with God, connect with one another, so that we can connect with our World! This is a great time of the year as we prepare for Resurrection Sunday to connect with people that need the Reality of the Resurrection!

GETTING CONNECTED

Our mission is a simple one here at South Attleboro - "To connect with God, to connect with one another, so that we can connect to our world." Connection is something that is desperately needed today in our lives, families, and the church. So many people feel all alone and the church needs to be a CONNECTING place!

We live in a world that really no longer connects with people. We connect through blogs, emails, text messaging, IM, and things like facebook. People need connection in thier lives. How many days we can go into our homes, and not even talk to our neighbors.

When we read the Word of God, it tells us that God created us for relationship. In fact the first thing God said was, "It is not good for man to be alone..." God made us for connection not isolation!

How can we help people connect to God, to one another, so that we can connect with our world?"

The Bible says that being spiritually connected means:

WE ARE BUILT LIKE A BUILDING

Ephesians 2:22 - "In Christ you are built together spiritually into a dwelling place for God."

Paul is saying - we are meant to fit together likes bricks in a building. If a building is going to be right, the parts need to fit together. One brick depends on the others around it, for support, strength, etc.
That is a picture of the church family that if we are not connected to a church family we will have no support, strength in the storms of life. LIFE IS TOUGH. There will be times when we all need support. That is why we all need the church!

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS?

LIVING RIGHT IN A WRONG WORLD

As believers we are to live right in a wrong world. In the new series that I started last week about "Living Above Medocrity." I am using the life of Daniel a young teenage boy who made the choice to live right in a wrong world. That as believers today we need to make a choice to live right, when the world is all wrong.

I was journaling this morning from 1 Corinthians 6 and when I came to verse 11, it spoke to me about this area of our living. New Living says it this way - "There was a time when some of you were just like that (living a sinful lifestyle), but now your sins have been washed away, and you have been set apart for God - you have been made right with God because of what the Lord Jesus Christ and Spirit of God have DONE in you."

We need to remember that there was a day that we were sinners, and knew only how to sin, but that was before we were born again and our sins were washed away, and now the Holy Spirit has set us apart from sin and now set apart to God. We are a new creation and our lives should be different in our daily living.

If you are reading this post, and you have never come to a real realtionship with Jesus Christ, then today is the day to ask Jesus Christ into your life, and to ask Him to forgive you of all your sins!

Jesus is the only way that we can live right in a wrong world!!!

Random Thoughts

Monday morning! My desire is to live with an excellent spirit today! I want to live like an eagle and not like a chicken. God's Word tells us in Isaiah - "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint." I want to encourage you to live with an excellent spirit today.

March Mardness - as a basketball fan I love this time of year. There is nothing like college basketball this next few weeks. My son and I are filling out our brackets tonight!

I am thankful for the people that accepted Christ yesterday morning in the services. Let us pray for God's favor in reaching people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Live be faith and not fear today!!!

BACK HOME

Good afternoon and it is good to be home from our missions trip to the Dominican Republic. We had a great time of investing our lives in the people, and the children for generations to come. Missions is the heartbeat of God, because God is always about people!

We had a great team of men go and work hard over the last week. We were able to prepare the building to be ready for the second floor roof to be installed. The team poured over 90 yards of concrete by hand, which is a lot of concrete. Now we need to continue to invest and help them to complete the roof for the sanctuary.

The school is doing well, and the church is growing and discipling people. One night the pastor had men who had been delivered from drugs and 5 men stood up and gave praise to the Lord. At the farewell service, 5 young men accepted the Lord. We need your help in investing into this church in the Dominican Republic!

I look forward to our services tomorrow as I begin a new series on "Living Above Mediocrity!"

Good to be home!

Pastor Ron

THE HEART OF GOD

What is the heart of God? The heart of God is always people. God's Word tells us - "Jesus came to seek and to save them that are lost." God is in the rescue business of saving people from sin and from themselves.

Early tomorrow morning, I will be heading to the Dominican Republic with other men as we commit a week of our lives to building a school for children to learn about Jesus Christ as well as to be educated to live out God's plan for their lives. We will be working on the second floor to build a sanctuary for people to worship and come to know Jesus Christ personally! Please pray for the team as we invest in rescuing people!

I want to encourage you that you do not have to go to the Dominican to rescue people. All around South Attleboro are people who need to be rescued. Help us to have the heart of God for our area. You can get involved in feeding the homeless on a weekly basis, clothing ministry, street evangelism and many other ways to rescue people!

Lord give us your heart for people!!!

FAMILY LIVING

God's Word tells us in Ephesians 1:5 TLB - "His unchanging plan has always been to adopt us into His own family." Family is so important to God, that He wants us to be a part of His family.

I just spent time with my parents in Florida, and some one of my brothers and my sister and their families came as well. My brother who is three years younger than me, and people thought we were twins, because of the resemblence that we have with one another. (But I think I am the more handsome of the two!!!) LOL. Being a part of a family means that you are alike in many ways, characteristics etc.

This is the same way it is in the family of God. We may have differences in style, beliefs, attitudes, types of worship, but we should have more things in common then we disagree on. If we are a son or daughter of God, we need to live like family!

We need to live like family in the church, and that means we must minister to everyone in the family. People come to church with all kinds of needs, some are broken. Think about how many people come to church with broken hearts, broken dreams, broken homes, broken lives. They limp into our church with a broken faith, and need people to minister healing to them. We need to consider our church God's treatment center for everything that ails people!

May I encourage you to be a part of the family!

BODY MINISTRY

I am so thankful for our church and the way God is beginning to use so many people to minister to others! Last night, Pastor Joseph ran the service that was geared towards those who are out of work, and in need of a job. He did an excellent job, with testimonies, and practical things for people that are out of work. Then we were able to pray and connect with people that are out of work. Thanks Pastor Joseph for your leadership.

Also last night, the Royal Rangers and Mpact (girls ministry) held a Pinewood Derby and there was a large number of people who came out for this event. I want to thank all the leaders for their time, effort and ministry to boys, girls and their families. Great Job!

May God bless every person that participates in God's plan and mission here!

You are loved,
Pastor Ron
